HOMEMADE SWEETENED CONDENSED
MILK

2 c. non-fat dry milk
2 c. sugar
1 stick butter
1 c. boiling water

Blend milk, sugar, butter, and water. Mixture will thicken as it stands. Mixture keeps indefinitely in the refrigerator. The homemade variety is a fraction of the cost of the canned product.

Blender Condensed Milk: Put 1/4 cup hot water and 3/4 cup sugar in blender. Blend 1 minute at medium high speed until sugar has partially dissolved. Add 1 1/4 cups non-fat dry milk powder. Blend until smooth. Continue with quick on/off bursts of speed while adding 4 tablespoons soft butter, 1 tablespoon at a time. Scrape from sides of blender and blend until smooth.

Refrigerate in a covered container at least 24 hours before using. Mixture will thicken. This makes approximately 1 1/2 cups, about equal to 14 ounce can. Keeps in refrigerator up to 1 month. Freezes well.
