OATMEAL - WHEAT BREAD | |
1 c. rolled oats 2 c. boiling water 2 pkg. yeast 1/3 c. warm water 1 1/2 tsp. salt 3/8 c. honey or molasses 1/4 c. oil 2 c. whole wheat flour 4 c. bread flour Put oats in large bowl, pour boiling water over oats. Let stand 30 minutes. Soften yeast in 1/3 cup warm water. Add to cooled oats; softened yeast, salt, honey (or molasses), oil and whole wheat flour. Stir all in. Add 2 cups of bread flour. When too stiff to stir, turn out on board and knead in rest of flour. Cover, let rise until double, 1-1 1/2 hours. Punch down. Shape into 2 loaves. Let rise in pans until almost double. Bake in preheated oven to 325 degrees for 50 minutes. |
