1 1/2 c. dates, cut up
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. butter
1 c. boiling water
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped nuts

Combine dates, soda and butter. Pour boiling water over; cool. Add flour, sugar, salt, egg and vanilla. Beat thoroughly for 1 minute.

Turn into 3 well greased #2 cans or 2 (#2 1/2) cans. Bake 50-60 minutes at 350 degrees. Let stand in cans 5 minutes before turning out.
