KATIE'S BASIC 6TH GRADE ORANGE
BREAD
 
3 med. oranges
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. water
1 tbsp. butter
1 1/4 c. orange juice
1 egg, beaten
2 1/2 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Peel oranges and tear into thin slivers (about 1/2 cup). In a saucepan, combine sugar, water and oranges. Stir until sugar dissolves. Boil gently for 5 minutes. Add butter and stir until melted.

In a bowl combine flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Add orange juice and egg to orange mixture. Pour into dry mixture all at once. Mix until just moistened. Batter should be lumpy.

Pour into greased 9"x5"x3" pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour 20 minutes. Makes 15 servings.
