APPLE BROWN BREAD 
1 c. raisins
2/3 c. dates
2/3 c. chopped apples
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1 tbsp. molasses
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour

Combine raisins, dates, apples and 1 1/2 cups water in saucepan; bring to a boil. Remove from heat; add soda and let cool, Cream sugar and shortening until fluffy; beat in egg; mixing well. Add molasses and vanilla. Add apple mixture alternately with flour to molasses mixture. Spoon batter into loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
