BANANA MERINGUE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
4 egg yolks, well beaten
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sugar
4 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. plus 2 tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream butter, sugar and egg yolks. Add flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk. Put batter into two (8 inch) round pans that are well greased and floured.

MERINGUE:

4 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts

Beat until stiff peaks form. Spread meringue over batter (meringue needs to be very stiff). Sprinkle chopped nuts over top. Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool 30 minutes in pan.

Turn meringue side of one layer down on plate. Layer in whipped cream (or Cool Whip) and bananas. Add top layer meringue side up. Top with bananas. Frost sides and top with whipped cream or Cool Whip. Top with chopped nuts. Chill. Keeps very well covered in the refrigerator.
