WONDER CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
3-4 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. cold water
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
6 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. vinegar

Sift into pan (8 x 8 ungreased) 1 1/2 cups sifted flour, 1 cup sugar, 3-4 tablespoons cocoa, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt. Make 3 holes in dry ingredients and into one put 6 tablespoons melted shortening or salad oil. Into second hole put 1 teaspoon vanilla. Into third hole put 1 tablespoon vinegar. Now pour in 1 cup cold water over everything. Using a fork, mix and stir until well blended with no lumps remaining. Put into preheated 350 degrees oven for 35 minutes. Let cool in pan and loosen edges with spatula. Frost with a thin layer of Chocolate Butter Frosting or serve warm with whipped cream.
