MARVELOUS CHERRY TORTE 
1 c. sifted flour
5 tbsp. confectioners sugar
1/2 c. soft butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. flour
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
1 (1 lb.) can drained pitted tart red cherries

Mix flour, confectioners sugar, and butter. Pat in bottom of 8 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees (325 degrees if glass dish) for 15 minutes. Cool.

Beat eggs with granulated sugar until thick and frothy. Add salt, 1/4 cup flour, baking powder and vanilla. Beat well. Fold in nuts and cherries. Pour over baked crust. Bake 40 minutes longer at 325 degrees. Cool. Add topping just before serving.

TOPPING:

1 pt. heavy cream, whipped
1/2 c. water or cherry juice
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
Few drops of red food coloring

Mix together. Serves 12.
