MAMAW'S CHERRY TORTE 
6 egg whites
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped pecans
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2 c. cracker crumbs
1 can cherries
2 cartons whipping cream

Beat egg whites until stiff. Mix in vanilla and almond extract with cream of tartar. Add sugar gradually. Fold in cracker crumbs and pecans. Pour into well greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done (light brown). Cool. Spread whipped cream over crust. Spread cherry pie filling over top.
