APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg, well beaten
1 1/2 c. applesauce
2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves or allspice
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. raisins
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. hot water

Cream fat and sugar, beating well. Add egg and applesauce alternately with dry ingredients. (Save some flour to mix with raisins and nuts.) Add soda which has been dissolved in hot water, raisins and nuts. Beat well. Bake in 9 x 13 x 2 inch greased pan. Spread frosting on warm cake - put under broiler until golden brown.

FROSTING:

4 tbsp. cream
1 c. coconut
1 c. brown sugar
4 tbsp. soft butter

Mix together.
