OLD FASHIONED WALNUT BREAD 
3 c. sifted flour
1 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/4 c. shortening, melted
1 1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. walnuts, coarsely chopped

Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Combine egg, shortening, milk, and vanilla and add to dry mixture. Stir just until all flour is moistened. Stir in walnuts. Turn into a greased loaf pan or divide between 2 greased 2 1/2 pound cans. Bake at 350 degrees for 80 minutes for loaf pan or about 70 minutes for cans.
