SWEET AND SOUR CABBAGE 
1 head red cabbage, chopped
1/4 lb. bacon
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 c. sugar
6 whole cloves
1/2 c. vinegar
1/2 c. water

Fry bacon that has been cut into small pieces. Make a hole in the middle of chopped cabbage and into it put bacon, a little of the grease, salt, pepper, sugar, cloves, vinegar, and water. Simmer until tender, stirring occasionally. Serve hot. Be certain cabbage is cut quite small.
