This is great for parties, I also use cranberry sauce in place of the grape jelly. Today I'm making a batch with both grape jelly and cranberry sauce... awesome!! Happy cooking!

I have made this meatball recipe for years...You can place the chili sauce, jelly and frozen meatballs in a large stock pot all at the same time. I am a little baffled Lee Smith suggesting to simmer for 3 hours!!! These are frozen meatballs, when they are soft they are done. This recipe takes a total of 40 minutes at best.

So happy to have re-found this recipe. Wrote it down this time on front of recipe card. On back I wrote several of the variations listed in these comments. Thanks for the tips. As for why to simmer for a few hours ... allows the flavors to really meld together and marinade the meatballs. Gives it a true slow cooked taste. Cannot wait to have tonight for family Super Bowl party!

I use one large bottle of ketchup and one large jar of grape jelly and a half of a small bottle of Tabasco sauce. I mix it all together and put in a crock pot with a bag of frozen meatballs (96) count. Everyone just raves over them!!

I add a small jar of mustard. The sweet and sour combination is awesome.

whenever I make these, my family seems to hang around the kitchen, just waiting for me to take my eyes off of them, so they can sample them! I usually have to make more than would be required for dinner, as they seem to evaporate! I serve them on a bed of wild rice! yum yum!

This is a very good recipe, but I have tried the grape jelly version and the canned jellied cranberry version and I prefer the cranberry. Also nice to add A-1 sauce to the mix instead of mustard, 1/4 cjup would be good or to your own taste. I love the idea of the crushed, drained pineapple too. But the chili sauce is the star, main ingredient!
