I have tried this recipe before but my 1st step was to open the bread package. Thanks for this great idea, it's always a winner for my children.

This is the best PB&J I've ever had! And all this time I've been putting the Peanut butter on the outside of the bread and getting it all over the place. 5 stars!

I have a variation of this recipe. I take 2 slices of bread and cover 1 side of both with peanut butter. Then add jelly on top of the peanut butter on one or both slices. Place together.
Reasons for this 1) you only need one knife as the peanut butter knife comes pretty clean if you slide it on correctly and 2) the peanut butter keeps the jelly from "bleeding" through the bread which is especially helpful if it is going into a lunch box for later.
The plate is optional. A paper towel works if balance is not an issue.

Great recipe, but a variation is to use a spoon for the jelly.

I never thought of this before, this recipe is brilliant! This is my go to from now on, I shouldn't rate five stars since I only used one knife.

Believe it or not... try adding mayonnaise by spreading it over the peanut butter. The mayonnaise cuts the strong jelly flavor. This is actually GREAT. Not my original idea. I used to see a man bring a peanut butter sandwich to work and it always had a white something in the sandwich. I finally asked what it was (thinking it was marshmallow cream)... To my surprise it was mayonnaise... and DOES make a difference. If you every try it - you will always use it. Sounds strange - but is wonderful...
