1 c. shortening, half butter
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Combine all the ingredients and press into a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan which has been lined with wax paper. Cool overnight. Remove from loaf pan. Cut in half and slice into cookies. Press top with a fork for washboard effect. Bake at 350 degrees.
