Our family has made these for years for Christmas. We call them Penoche Chews. We cut into slender bars and then cover with powdered sugar. They are amazing! Be sure to store in tight bags as they will dry out.

My family and friends love chew bread. I don't like the nuts but without them the bread is too sweet, so I eat around them...I have been making this since I was about 12 years old.

Easy recipe and yummy! Don't forget to let your chew bread cool so it can set.

I have tried several chew bread recipes. Ever time mine comes out more like cake, I have eaten really good chew bread. How do you get the top to have that little crusty appearance to it? Betty in N.C.

I have been making these since I was 12 years old. I don't like nuts but I eat around the bar because they are too sweet without the nuts.
