STICKY BUNS OR DOUGHNUTS | |
1 c. mashed potatoes Cook potatoes in alot of water and save. Add to potatoes: 1/2 c. butter 2 eggs 1 or 2 dry yeast packs Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup water, even if using 2 packs, use 2 packs if raising all day. Add alternately to above mixture: Approximately 3 c. flour (enough to make soupy batter) Let stand about 3 hours to raise. Add 6 or 7 cups flour or enough that it is hard to stir with a spoon. Let stand to raise at least 10 hours. STICKY BUNS: Roll dough thin in a rectangle. Spread with butter. Sprinkle lightly with brown sugar, raisins, nuts and cinnamon. Pour on barrel molasses. Roll and slice 3/4 inch thick. Place in pan with several pats of butter, molasses, brown sugar, nuts and raisins. Let raise 2 hours. Bake 30 minutes at 375 degrees. RAISED DOUGHNUTS: Roll dough about 1 1/2 inches. Cut with doughnut cutter and place on tray to raise for 2 hours. Fry in oil on highest temperature in electric fry pan. When stops bubbling, flip over and cook other side. Shake in granulated or powdered sugar. |
