1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 c. sugar
1 whole egg, unbeaten
2 tbsp. milk
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Blend together shortening, salt, grated lemon rind and sugar. Blend in egg and milk. Blend in flour, baking powder and soda.

Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet. Grease bottom of a glass. Dip glass in sugar and flatten each cookie. Sprinkle cookies with nutmeg. Bake 8 to 10 minutes, until light golden. Cool on a rack. Makes about 3 dozen cookies. "Just the things with a glass of lemonade." Makes 36 servings.
