CHOP SUEY | |
1 lb. pork or beef steak 1 c. sliced onions 1 c. diced celery 1/2 c. sliced mushrooms 2 c. drained bean sprouts 1 can water chestnuts (optional) 1 can bamboo shoots (optional) 1/4 c. Mazola oil 1 tbsp. corn starch 1/4 c. water 1 tsp. soy sauce 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. sugar Heat oil in a heavy pot or pressure cooker. Brown meat a little, add juice of mushrooms or beef stock. Cook 20 to 30 minutes depending on pan you use. Add celery, onions, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. Mix in separate container corn starch, water, soy sauce, salt, sugar mixed to a paste. Add to the rest of the ingredients. Stir and season to taste. Add sprouts and heat through. Serve over rice or Chinese noodles. Serves 4 to 6. |
