AUNT ESTHER'S CHRISTMAS KUCHEN 
2 c. water
4 c. flour
2 cakes yeast, dissolved in 1/4 c. water with bit of sugar

Combine above and allow to stand until sponge-like.

2 c. of one can canned milk and water added (to make 2 full cups)
6 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs, beaten
3 tbsp. salt
8 c. flour (add about 6 cups and knead in the rest)
1 pkg. raisins

Let rise until double in bulk, form into loaves and place in greased pans.

TOPPING:

Brush tops of loaves with 1 slightly beaten egg and sprinkle on a mixture
of 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon.

Let rise until double.

Bake at 350 degrees for 40 to 50 minutes.
