IRISH SODA BREAD 
2 lbs. flour
2 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
2 tsp. salt
12 fl. oz. milk or buttermilk

Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda, and salt into a warmed bowl. Add the milk or buttermilk and mix to a smooth dough. Shape into a large deep circle. Transfer to a well greased baking sheet, then cut a deep cross in the center. Put the baking sheet into the oven. Preheat to gas mark 7 - 220 degrees C. or 425 degrees F. and bake for 35 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
