TEA CAKES 
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. buttermilk with 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
Pinch salt
1 tsp. baking powder
3 1/2 c. flour

Cream shortening and sugar. Add rest of ingredients except flour. Work in flour. Roll out and cut with a cutter. Bake at 400 degrees. I put in chopped nuts and chopped Maraschino cherries, both red and green. Then drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 8 to 9 minutes at 400 degrees.
