BUTTER COOKIES 
2 c. butter
4 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
8 c. all-purpose flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Cream butter and sugar in large bowl until fluffy. Add eggs, blend. Blend in milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and add to sugar mixture. Divide dough into fourths. Chill. Roll on floured and sugared surface, cut into shapes. Bake at 375°F for 10-12 minutes. Place (1 oz.) squares of chocolate on each hot cookie, if desired
