BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
10 (6") cucumbers
10 sm. or med. onions
2/3 c. salt
3 c. white vinegar
3 c. water
2 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. mustard seed
1 tbsp. celery seed
1 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. alum

Cut unpeeled cucumbers in thin slices crossways. Peel onions and cut up into thin slices. Fill jars with the onions and cucumbers. Heat vinegar, water, 2/3 cup salt, sugar, spices and alum to boiling point. Pour over the cucumbers and onions. Seal jars and process 10 minutes in hot water bath.
