BUTTERSCOTCH AND CHOCOLATE BARS | |
3/4 c. shortening 1 c. brown sugar 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 2 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. salt 1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips 1/2 c. chopped nuts 1/2 c. flaked coconut Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly; add egg and beat well. Add vanilla. Sift flour and salt together; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Spread in a very lightly greased 10 x 15 inch pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes or until just done (be careful not to overbake). Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over top of baked mixture immediately after removing from oven; return to oven for about 3 minutes, just long enough to soften the chocolate to a spreading consistency. Spread evenly and sprinkle with nuts and coconut. Cut while still warm. Makes 40 bars. |
