APPLE PAN DOWDY 
8 oz. sliced apples
1 1/2 oz. brown sugar
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. butter
4 oz. (1/2 c.) sugar
1 egg, well beaten
3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
4 oz. (1.2 c.) milk

Place apples in greased baking dish. Sprinkle with brown sugar, spices and salt. Bake at 350 degrees until apples are soft. Meanwhile make batter; cream butter. Add sugar gradually and egg. Mix and sift flour, soda and salt. Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Pour over apples and continue baking. Total baking time is 35 minutes. Serve from baking dish. Serve with cream or ice cream. Serves 6.
