What is chili paste? Anyone know?

I don't know about the chili paste. I would use salsa as a substitute.

Um, folks, I really thought the comments here were silly. Chili paste is a paste made of chili peppers and would therefore add some spice to this otherwise drab dip. Also, really, you need to know what to serve bean dip with? Chips, tortillas, veggies, anything you can dip. wow.

you find chili paste in the Asian condiments section at your grocery store....or you can go to an Asian grocery store for it. it can be spicy..like salsa you can buy it in different degrees of hot.

ha...i agreed with Jb. I can't believe people haven't heard of chili paste. you can find it in the Asian section of basically any grocery store. plus, you people are on the internet...google it! ... and who in their right mind doesn't know what to serve with a bean dip!?

Please, people, when you respond please use a little respect. We are all humans and none of us knows everything, so don't put someone down for not knowing something!

AND, people, people... Please restrain yourselves. You may not be as smart as you think you are. Chili paste means different things to different people: be it African, Mexican, Thai, or Malaysian. So, please, Chris (Minnesota), google it before you post.

I've made this before, I used refried beans, then spicy no bean chili (canned hormel works), with shredded cheese on top. I cook the refried beans and chili prior to layering it and I bake it in a pie pan and serve with tortilla chips and it is great.

Actually.... the chili paste used in this dish is NOT found on the Asian isle at the grocery store. But, is usually made of smoked chili peppers and other Spanish spices.

I just want to say that JB from Rhode Island. Thank you. I literally face palmed cause half these people are absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, you should be embarrassed to ask such questions like "what do we serve with this dip?" Really? Are you joking?! Please people, use your brains. You were given one for a reason. If you were mentally challenged then maybe I would let your idiotic questions slide, but I seriously doubt any one of you is suffering from brain damage.

I am so glad that I didn't ask my own wonderings about the chili paste and there still doesn't seem to be one definitive answer here. Since there are a variety of choices for dipping options, it doesn't seem unreasonable to wonder which one works best. Vegetables and bean dip? I don't imagine that; is that what you've actually tried?

Silly me, I thought this was a place to comment on how good this recipe was, not a place to insult other people. There are some people who are not familiar with Mexican food (or even American version of Mexican food). A little kindness and patience goes a long way toward making new friends. :-)

I swear these reviews belong on some kind of 'FAIL' website or something. I haven't laughed so much on a recipe website in my life. Personally I made this recipe for a party I am attending tonight last minute (had all the ingredients) and only hope I have some left before I get there. I chose tortilla chips for dipping. Quite delish! 4 thumbs up

I have never heard of chili paste before and Ive been cooking a long time. I used salsa and it was really good.
