DINER-STYLE OVEN BURGERS | |
This is a fabulous method for making ooey-gooey diner-style cheeseburgers on buns that are toasty on the outside, yet have pillowy-soft interiors. I have to admit I am fully hooked... 1 lb. lean ground beef (can use 80/20 or 85/15 if you prefer) 1 tsp. salt pepper, to taste 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 2 tbsp. dried minced onions 4 slices deli-style American cheese (*see note) 4 sesame seed hamburger buns Preheat oven to 375°F and spray an 8x8-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray. Combine beef with salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and onions. Shape into 4 equal-size patties. Place in baking dish. Bake for 25 minutes. Place a slice of cheese on each burger and bake an additional minute or until cheese has begun melting. Remove burgers from oven and place on bun bottoms. Add bun tops and carefully wrap each burger individually in foil. (Just enough to wrap the burger completely.) Place back in oven for 2-3 minutes to allow the cheese to fully melt and the buns to get warm and toasty. Remove burgers and unwrap, then place on serving plates and add condiments and toppings of choice. (Ketchup, mustard, caramelized chopped onions, and dill pickle slices go great with these.) Serve with shoestring fries and a bowl of creamy cole slaw for a complete diner-style meal! NOTES: • If you like your burgers extra-cheesy, by all means use 2 slices of cheese per burger! • Condiments and toppings are added last to avoid the buns from becoming soggy. Submitted by: Carol |
