GRANNY SMITH'S MOLASSES COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. plain flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

Mix first 4 ingredients together. Mix remaining ingredients together. Mix creamed mixture into flour mixture. Let stand in refrigerator for 1 hour. Make into balls the size of walnuts and roll in confectioner's sugar. Put brown paper or tin foil over a pan and bake at 300 to 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes. Let stand to cool and store in a tightly covered container.
