AMERICAN CHOP SUEY 
1 lb. ground round
2 tbsp. shortening
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
3/4 c. rice
1 c. chopped celery
2 c. chopped tomatoes
1 tsp. salt

Brown beef in shortening in saucepan. Add remaining ingredients mixing well. Cook, covered, over high heat until steaming; turn off heat. Let stand for 1 hour. Yields: 8 servings.
