DUTCH APPLE OR RHUBARB BARS 
2 c. flour
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. oatmeal
3/4 c. melted lard
Salt
4 c. of apples or rhubarb
1 c. water
1 c. white sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix flour, brown sugar, oatmeal, salt and lard to crumble. Keep 1 cup for top. Put in oblong pan and add apples or rhubarb. Bring water, sugar and cornstarch to a boil. Boil until thick, add vanilla. Pour over apples or rhubarb. Add rest of crumbles. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees.

VARIATION - decrease flour to 1 cup, butter to 1/2 cup.
