CHEWY BUTTERSCOTCH CANDIES 
1 lb. butter
1 lb. sugar
1 jar white Karo syrup
1 can condensed milk
Pinch of salt
1 sm. bottle vanilla extract

In large saucepan, stir in each ingredient one at a time in sequence above. When adding an ingredient, let it come to a boil before adding the next. Reduce heat to low and, stirring constantly, cook for one hour. Yes, I said an hour! Pour onto buttered surface (you can use your countertop if it's formica). Using buttered knives, keep patting the edges of the candy mixture toward the center until it is set. Cut into small pieces and wrap in wax paper squares quickly, before it gets too hard.
