CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (12 oz.) pkg. or 2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 c. chopped walnuts

To mixing bowl cream softened butter, shortening, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.

In another bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture and stir until well blended. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Drop from a teaspoon 2 inches apart onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet and cool on wire rack. Makes 6 dozen.
