BEEF STEW 
1 lg. onion, sliced
1 tbsp. butter flavored vegetable shortening
1 can beef broth
2 c. cubed beef
1 can beef gravy
2 thick slices of lemon
1 1/2 c. diced potatoes
1 1/2 c. sliced carrots
10 pitted dates, chopped
Dash of salt
1 tbsp. flour (Wondra flour preferred)

Cook onion in shortening in heavy pot until tender. Add beef and cook, stirring constantly until red gone but not brown - do not overcook. Add the rest of the ingredients except flour and simmer 25 minutes. Add flour to thick and cook about 5 more minutes.

Serving suggestion: Serve with hot bread stick or biscuits to complete this perfect meal.
