2 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. cocoa
3 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shortening
3 unbeaten eggs
24 oz. applesauce (3 c.)

Sift together first 6 ingredients. Add remaining ingredients and beat about 5 minutes. Pour batter into a greased tube pan. Sprinkle with 2 tablespoons granulated sugar and 1/2 cup chopped nuts. For dessert cake, sprinkle with 3 ounces chocolate chips. Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes or until done. (Elinor baked hers 1 1/2 hours.)
