Made these without the icing, used powdered sugar sprinkled on top, reminded me of old fashioned cake brownies, very yummy! Will make again and try the frosting next time!

I have made this recipe for years. At brandings, pot luck and home. Family loves it and always have complements on them. Best to use real choc. chips and not favored ones as they do not melt as nice as "real" ones

Have you tried slicing maraschino cherries in half and putting them in the mix? I pour the batter in the pan then place the halves on top distributed evenly then lightly press them down till almost completely covered by batter. Then cook and frost as usual. They are AMAZING and everyone loves them! I have also used leftover homemade mint buttercream I keep in the freezer that I heated a bit to make it funnier then drizzled it over the top over the recipes icing (obviously you don't put cherries in that pan). I've also done raspberry buttercream and again yummy! There's actually a lot of ways to customize these bars (gonna try chopped peanut butter cups next).
