MOLASSES COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. dark molasses
1 egg
2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. salt

In large bowl, cream together shortening and one cup sugar. Add molasses and egg and beat well. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Add to molasses mixture and mix well. Cover and chill for 1 hour. Form into 1 inch balls. Roll each in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Let stand one minute to cool, remove from sheet. Makes 4 dozen.
