BRER RABBIT MOLASSES COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. Brer Rabbit molasses
1 egg
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. sifted flour

Using liquid shortening, add sugar, molasses, and egg. Beat well. Sift flour, soda, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and salt together. Add to first mixture. Mix well and chill. Form into 1 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet, 2 inches apart. Bake at 375 degrees for 8-10 minutes.

Yes.. this is my childhood memory cookie! I even won blue ribbons at the county fair as a kid with these. Word of advice.. melted Crisco makes the best crackles on the cookie. Only instance I use the stuff but it gives the best results.

I won a 2 County Girl Scout cookie bake off with this recipe. I lived in NJ and the cookies stayed crispy, but in FL they get moist in the humidity.
