GERMAN CRUMB CAKE 
2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter

Mix all above ingredients. Remove 1 cup for topping.

1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. warm water
1 tbsp. molasses
1 egg
1 c. milk (add 1 tsp. vinegar)

Add baking soda in warm water to mixture. Also add molasses, egg and milk to which 1 teaspoon of vinegar has been added. Beat well with mixer. Pour into 13x9-inch square pan and sprinkle reserved topping over batter. Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes.
