FRESH ASPARAGUS CASSEROLE 
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. flour
Salt and pepper to taste
1 1/2 c. milk
2 hard cooked eggs
1/2 to 3/4 lb. asparagus
4 slices American cheese

Melt butter in double boiler or pan with heavy bottom. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Gradually add milk, stirring; cook until thickened.

Wash asparagus and snap off where stalks break naturally. In bottom of greased baking dish, spread about 2 tablespoons white sauce, then a layer of asparagus, slices of 1 egg and 2 slices of cheese. Next add a layer of white sauce, the remaining asparagus, slices of the second egg, remaining white sauce and remaining 2 slices of cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour until bubbly. Do not cover baking dish.
