NAVAJO FRY BREAD | |
6 c. flour (Gold Medal all-purpose) 1 1/2 tbsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 2 tbsp. powdered milk Mix ingredients all together. Pour slowly 1 3/4 to 2 cups warm water and mix until bread dough consistency. Knead with your hand 2 to 5 minutes until soft and smooth. Best to let stand, covered, at room temperature for several hours. Then form into biscuit size balls. Roll or use hands to flatten until diameter of medium size frying pan. Preheat to very hot, about 1 to 2 cups Crisco oil in frying pan. Gently lay each piece in very hot oil, turning until brown on both sides. Remove and drain. Makes 1 dozen. |
