This recipe was perfect, even without chocolate chips! Delicious and easy!

Gave this a try as the recipe is very similar to one on the Cheerios website you make with Banana Nut Cheerios. The addition of choc chips seems like a good idea, but when you pour the hot/warm syrup over the cereal and choc chips, the choc chips all melt making a huge chocolatey mess. They are very rich and I hope they will set up and cut into bars okay. Would make again but would NOT add the choc chips. Instead I would use Chocolate Cheerios. I added raisins because we like chocolate, peanut butter and raisins.

I mixed the cheerios and peanut butter mixture in a separate bowl to cool them off first but not completely cool. I put the cheerios in the pan so as I added cheerios to the pan, I sprinkles my chocolate chips in to avoid the chocolate chips melting. To avoid the recipe being too sweet, I used dark chocolate 60% cacao or above instead of milk or semi sweet.

We made an adjustment. We added the chocolate chips to the mixture on the stove and mixed and melted together. It was thicker when it was combined, so we poured over cheerios and stirred and then pressed into 9X13 pan. Then we patted chopped pecans into the top and let sit. Basically, it was a choco/peanut butter/cheerio version of the rice crispy treat. But SO GOOD!!!!
