I've used this recipe many times but I also cut the sugar & like to use the old fashioned oats instead of the quick. More chew to them. Delicious!

My mother in law, Grandma Padgett, taught me when I was 16. I taught my daughter Kelly Padgett. Who taught both her girls Kelsey & Kylie Padgett. This is the best recipe ever...

I'm 32 years old and started cooking in the kitchen at age 9 while my mom worked. I would always be in there helping her cook things from scratch. this was one of them. this is the same recipe I used at 10 years old.. and it was the same that my mom used when she was little. good to see something from so long ago.. brings back memories.. as I always added extra milk and sugar and and it was a "milk chocolate" then a dark chocolate.. we never used wax paper so I used pie pans with a thin layer of butter spread on the pans then placed them in the freezer.. few.hours later pull them out then cut and it's the best candy bar "no bake bar" you have ever ate.

Just made them. It's been 20 minutes but they haven't firmed up yet. They taste great though. Why don't any of these cookie recipes tell how many they'll make? Mine are all different sizes approximately cookie size and I got 31. Didn't have wax paper so I used aluminum foil sprayed with cooking spray.

 Kortney (Texas) says:
My family loves this recipe!!! The only downside to these cookies is the fact that they seem to disappear faster than I can keep them on the paper!! I wonder where they go to?

My Grandmother taught me how to make this years ago , and I am now teaching my Granddaughter. It's been a family favorite at ALL the Holidays and Birthdays :)
As my Grandchildren say ..... Best cookie ever!

These have been a family favorite for as long as I can remember. If you don't bring them to a boil, then the sugar won't come to the right temperature to make the cookies set up. This cookie is part cookie and part candy, and really versatile. It's so much fun to play around with. Finely chopped almonds were a fun one, broken up candy canes in tiny pieces for another at the holidays.

For a healthier version you can use coconut oil in place of butter, may want a dash of salt then. Also a little ground flax or chia can be used in place of a little oatmeal, also can add chopped nuts. Just make sure you don't have so much additional good stuff they get too dry. I also always use the dark cocoa.

I place the wax paper on a cookie sheet then drop mix on to wax paper. To get them a little firmer I place in the refrigerator
