MY MOM'S DATE-NUT BREAD 
2 tbsp. butter
1 pkg. dates
3/4 c. boiling water
3/4 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 beaten egg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped walnuts (dust with flour)

Cut pitted dates into thirds, slice butter on top of dates and pour boiling water over all, mix; let stand.

Sift flour, sugar, soda, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Add egg and vanilla. Add date mix; add nuts; bake in greased an floured loaf pan at 375 degrees for 50-60 minutes. Don't overbake.
