DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
2 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. water

FOR TOP OF CAKE:

4 apples
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon

Sift flour, baking powder, sugar and salt together. Add shortening mixing with fork. Beat egg. Add water, add dry ingredients to make a stiff dough. Spread 1/2 inch thick in greased pie plate or baking pan. Wash, pare, core and cut apples into eighths. Press into dough placing close together. Dot with small pieces of butter.

Mix sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle on apples and top of cake. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes or until apples are tender.
