DUTCH APPLE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2 tbsp. milk
4 c. sliced apples
1/2 tsp. cinnamon and nutmeg
Few drops lemon extract

Mix and sift dry ingredients. Blend in shortening until well mixed. Stir in egg and milk. Line 8 inch pan with dough mixture and cover with sliced apples.

Cover apples with following mixture: 1 1/2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. butter 1/4 tsp. salt

Spice and extract may be added to above or sprinkle over apples. Mix above well. Bake in moderate oven, about 400 degrees, one hour or until apples are well done.
