1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. applesauce (hot)
1 c. pecans, chopped & raisins, mixed
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar, add beaten egg. Sift flour with cloves, cinnamon and cocoa. Add to short mixture. Combine soda with HOT applesauce, add to mixture. Mix vanilla with mixed nuts and raisins, add to mixture. Put mixture in greased floured sheet cake pan. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 40 minutes at 325 degrees.
