ENGLISH TOFFEE SQUARES 
1 c. soft butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, separated
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts

Cream butter; add sugar, vanilla and egg yolk; beat until light. Add sifted dry ingredients, and 1/2 cup of the nuts. Mix well. Press in greased 10x15x1 inch pan. Brush with beaten egg white and remaining 1/2 cup of nuts sprinkled on top. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes. Cut into squares while still warm.
