AUNT HAZEL'S CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sifted cake flour 1/2 c. cocoa 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 1 3/4 c. sugar 3 eggs, separated 1 tsp. baking soda 1 tbsp. hot water 1 c. cold water Sift together flour, cocoa and salt. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg yolks and vanilla, beat well. Dissolve baking soda in 1 tablespoon hot water. Stir into creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients alternately with 1 cup cold water, beating well after each addition. Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry. Fold into cake batter. Pour batter in greased 13x9x2 cake pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) 30 minutes or until done (with cake test). Cool on rack. Frost with Cream Cheese Frosting. Makes 16 servings. |
