DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2 c. butter
3/4 c. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. flour
4 eggs
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. Allspice

Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and beat well. Sift flour and spices 3 times. Add soda to buttermilk and dissolve. Mix flour and buttermilk alternately with sugar-egg mixture. Add vanilla. Mix cocoa with just enough hot water to make a paste. Add to cake batter and mix well. Bake in 3 round pans (put waxed paper in bottom of pans) at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes until done.

FUDGE ICING:

3 c. sugar
1 c. milk
3 tbsp. Karo
3 tbsp. cocoa
Dash of salt

Cook mixture slowly until it forms a soft ball. Cool to lukewarm. Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 2 tablespoons butter. Beat until spreading consistency and apply.
